KTM will quit the two-stroke 250cc World Championship as well as this class will be replaced by the Moto2 class in Grand Prix racing. The Moto2 class will use 600cc four-strokes engine next year. It is not the only KTM to quit the race, the other manufacturer including Aprilia, Gilera, Derbi and KTM.
This situation doesn’t make the KTM frustation. KTM will be still developing new two-stroke engines. KTM’s CEO Stefan Pierer has confirmed that KTM will continue to work on quieter, more powerful and greener two-strokes engine. He also said that the machine will be lighter and easier to work on compared to four-stroke engines. The two-stroke will continue to remain an integral part of the future model planning at KTM.
